Responsibilities

Our Commitment to Corporate, Social and Environmental Initiatives

At the Rogers Centre Ottawa, we are committed to the betterment of our community.

Environmental Responsibility

We are committed to a healthier planet.

The Rogers Centre Ottawa offers businesses, visitors, and staff an ecologically conscious space to gather. The Board of Directors are devoted to doing what is best for the planet’s future.

We are proud to confirm that the Rogers Centre Ottawa was awarded a LEED Gold Certification in 2013. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is North America’s leading third-party green building rating system. A LEED certification recognizes our facility’s enhanced efficiency and low carbon emissions.

The Rogers Centre Ottawa’s construction incorporated regionally manufactured or recycled materials to contribute to the local economy and mitigate emissions associated with transportation. Finishings, such as carpets, millwork, and paints, are low in volatile organic compounds.

Air is preheated in the winter as it enters the building to reduce energy costs. We installed a high-reflective roof to minimize how the “heat island” effect can increase temperatures in urban settings and impact climate and wildlife.

Our low-flow plumbing reduces water consumption and minimizes impacts on water and sewage treatment plants. A cistern system is in place to gather recycled stormwater for toilet use and irrigation.

We maintain a comprehensive waste management program with advanced collection and sorting methods. Our advanced green housekeeping and maintenance regime contributes to the healthy operation of our facility – enhancing the experience of all guests, exhibitors, and employees.

In an age where environmental awareness is taking the spotlight, the Rogers Centre Ottawa stands out as a symbol of sustainability in the events industry. Waste Management

Capable of digesting up to 600 pounds of food scraps per day, the ORCA transforms waste into environmentally safe grey water within 24 hours, diverting tons of material monthly from composting and landfills. The result is not only a reduction in waste picked up at the Centre but also a significant decrease in diesel usage, further lowering the carbon footprint. In 2018 alone, the ORCA digested over 45,000 pounds of food scraps.

Innovative Technology

The Rogers Centre Ottawa’s commitment extends to intelligent technologies, including daylight sensors, double-glazed windows, and ventilation systems contributing to a remarkable 39% reduction in energy consumption compared to conventional buildings of similar size. Eco-friendly housekeeping products and the groundbreaking ORCA waste management system further underscore the commitment to sustainability.

Sustainable Architecture

Even in exterior maintenance, the Rogers Centre Ottawa upholds its commitment to sustainability. The use of a non-toxic ice-melting product, less harmful to vegetation and concrete than traditional alternatives, exemplifies the venue’s dedication to environmentally friendly practices. With a corrosion inhibitor that safeguards metal and leaves no oily residue, this effective solution ensures that water runoff remains clear of harmful chemicals before entering the filter system, contributing to the preservation of the Rideau Canal and other local waterways.

Culinary

Our culinary team passionately prioritizes local, seasonal ingredients to craft menus that not only tantalize the taste buds but also contribute to minimizing the carbon footprint. This steadfast commitment enhances flavors while simultaneously fostering connections with local producers, creating a tapestry of community support.

Green Partnerships

Recent contributions to the Ottawa Mission underscore the immediate and meaningful impact on the lives of those in need. The Rogers Centre Ottawa’s dedication to recovering surplus food for donation not only aids individuals in need but also quantifies the overall reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. This partnership serves as a beacon for greener future events, illustrating the power of sustainable practices in making a positive impact on both local communities and the environment.

The Rogers Centre Ottawa Cares and Shares

We support our community and encourage those who gather here to join us. We maintain three flexible corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs that enable our clients to have a positive impact without a demanding time commitment. We’re happy to help identify the CSR initiative best aligned with your organization’s values and objectives.

La Tablée des Chefs

At Rogers Centre Ottawa, we’re committed to reducing food waste and supporting our community through our partnership with La Tablée des Chefs. Surplus food from our events is safely collected and redistributed to the Ottawa Mission as well as other organizations, ensuring that edible food reaches those in need. By participating in this food recovery program, we proudly contribute to the fight against food insecurity while reducing our environmental footprint. Together, we track the impact of our efforts, measuring both the portions donated and our contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Leave a Legacy

Our guests are encouraged to donate leftover goods to the local Ottawa community with volunteer assistance from Rogers Centre Ottawa partners. The Leave a Legacy program is a flexible and easy way for our guests to make an impact after their event.

Our team identifies opportunities to donate anything left over, whether non-perishable food, obsolete marketing collateral, promotional items, furniture, displays, carpets, or anything else. We’ll look after all the arrangements to ensure your donations go where they matter most.

Indigenous Tourism Destination Fund

The Indigenous Tourism Destination Fund will offer a range of support mechanisms, including financial grants, mentorship programs, marketing assistance, and capacity-building workshops. These resources will enable Indigenous entrepreneurs and communities to develop and promote authentic tourism experiences that celebrate their traditions, history, and culture while generating meaningful economic opportunities.
