OTTAWA – Shaw Centre is pleased to announce it will be once again hosting Cannexus National Career Development Conference on January 22-24, 2018. The bilingual conference will attract 1,000 national and international professionals to the heart of Canada’s capital who are working in career counselling, employment and workforce development.
This year marks the fifth Cannexus conference that the Shaw Centre will be hosting; and is the biggest annual event in the country for career counsellors and career development professionals consists of three days.
The national conference has outlined an impressive program which includes three keynote speakers that will be taking the stage. Speakers include: Toronto Star national affairs writer, Chantal Hebert; professor and department head of educational psychology, counseling and special education at Pennsylvania State University, Spencer Niles; and Canadian freelance writer, and creator of The Little Mosque on The Prairie Zarqa Nawaz.
Conference delegates will be able to attend pre-conference workshops as wellas choose from over 150 education sessions; including but not limited to:
- How AI, robotics and automation will impact work
- The rise of “seniorpreneurs” in Canada
- Role of parents and teachers in career development of children ages 3-8

Cannexus will be hosted by CERIC and supported by its founding sponsor, The Counselling Foundation of Canada along with 32 organizations in the career development sector and multiple sponsors.

Shaw Centre, previously known as the Ottawa Congress Centre was founded in 1983. The centre was redeveloped into a new, larger facility with project funding from the Province of Ontario, the City of Ottawa and the Government of Canada which opened its doors in April 2011 as the Ottawa Convention Centre (OCC).
