The Ontario Association of Architecture (OAA) presented Ritchard Brisbin, principal of bbb architects with the People’s Choice Award at the Celebration of Excellence Ceremony on Friday, May 11, 2012. The Ottawa Convention Centre beat out 15 other building designs, including the James Bartleman Archives and Library Materials Centre in Ottawa, Vaughan City Hall, and Stephen Hawking Centre at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Waterloo, Ontario for the People’s Choice Award.
“The OCC is proud to once again be recognized with a prestigious award.” said Patrick Kelly, President of Ottawa Convention Centre. “Ritchard Brisbin and bbb architects created a stunning building that fits extremely well into the landscape and provides spectacular views of the downtown core.”
Ritchard’s creativity, innovation and stunning bold design was also recognized with a Design Excellence Award by the Ontario Association of Architects, a prerequisite to be eligible for the People’s Choice Award. Design Excellence Awards are based on a variety of criteria including: sustainability, creativity, legacy, good design/good business and overall context exemplifying the significance of architecture in the public realm.

The Ottawa Convention Centre celebrated its first anniversary April 13, 2012 with 562 events taking place in the first year of operation, generating over $83 million in economic impact.
